Dr. Qiang (Charles) Feng is a Professor of the State Key Laboratory for Advanced Metals and Materials at the University of Science and Technology Beijing (USTB) and an internationally recognized materials scientist in the field of Ni- and Co-based superalloys. He received his Ph.D. degree from New York University (formerly Polytechnic University) in 2000. He worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow at the University of Michigan from 2000 to 2005. His research interests include alloy development, microstructure, mechanical properties (creep and fatigue) and life prediction of high temperature structural materials, including superalloys, intermetallic alloys and heat resistant steels. Materials systems of interests are mainly applied in aircraft engine and gas turbine industries as well as automotive industries. Prof. Feng has authored or co-authored over 160 papers in referred journals, conference proceeding papers and over 20 patents.

Prof. Feng is currently the Director of the Office of International Affairs and Deputy Director of the Beijing Advanced Innovation Center for Materials Genome Engineering at USTB, serves as the Deputy Secretary-General of the Chinese Materials Research Society (C-MRS), and is a member of the High Temperature Alloys Committee of the Minerals, Metals and Materials Society (TMS).

He has been honored by the Chinese Ministry of Education as a ”New Century Excellent Talents in University,” and received numerous awards including the ”Outstanding Contribution Award” from C-MRS, ”Young Leader Award” from TMS, and the “Research Mentor Award” from the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan. Prof. Feng has been a leading organizer of a series of superalloys symposiums at the Chinese Materials Conference, and co-organizer of a number of international symposiums, such as the ICME 2019 and Superalloys 2020 conferences. He also serves as a member of the editorial board for  Metallurgical and Materials Transactions A ,  Progress in Natural Science: Materials International ,  Materials Research Letter, Journal of Materials Science and Technology,   Rare   Metals  and  International Journal of Minerals, Metallurgy and Materials .
